Project SAMARIS (Sustainable and Advanced MAterials for Road Infrastructures) is com-missioned under the GROWTH chapter of the European Union’s 5th Framework Programme (FP5). It is a merger of two proposals made for the last FP5 call in September 2000 and was started on the 1st of January 2004 with an allocated duration of three years. The two original proposals which have been retained in the present project were widely different in topic, but had the same end users, - the owners and operators of highway infrastructure and the industry which undertake construction and maintenance of this infrastructure. The benefits accruing from the project eventually serve the general public as users of the infrastructure and as tax payers. The SAMARIS consortium has 23 partners in 17 countries, including one partner from the USA. It is organised into two groups of work packages, one researching on the best uses of recycled materials in pavements and another researching on ways to optimise the maintenance strategies for bridges and other highway structures of cement concrete through advanced re-habilitation technologies. The two research streams each have research coordinators, who to-gether with the project coordinator and the 7 work package leaders form the project manage-ment group. The activities of the management group are organised in a separate work pack-age, as are the dissemination and exploitation activities.

The similarity algorithm calculates how much two contents in the system are similar to one another. So far, similarity is calculated based on similarity of the project type, area of interest and user type. Generally, if two contents have more parameters in common they are more similar to each another. More information.
