ARCHES - Assessment and Rehabilitation of Central European Highway Structures
The overall goal of the ARCHES project is to develop ways to raise the standard of the highway structures of New Member States (NMS) and Central and Eastern European Countries (CEEC) to the level necessary for their full economic integration into the EU and for the future development of the union.

CALM II - Coordination of European Research for Advanced Transport Noise Mitigation
The project supports the European Commission in setting up the agenda for future transport noise research and development. CALM II brings together the leading stakeholders of European and national activities from road, rail, aeronautic and maritime transport as well as health and socio-economic issues in addition to the leaders of the European Noise Working Groups and the respective European Research Advisory Councils.

CERTAIN - Central European Research in Transport
The Coordination Action aims to facilitate integration of the EU New Member States (NMS) and other Central and Eastern European countries (CEEC) into the established research and development community of the European Union.

CVIS - Cooperative Vehicle - Infrastructure Systems
This Integrated Project aims to develop and test new technologies to allow road vehicles to communicate with any nearby roadside infrastructure. Based on such real-time road and traffic information, many novel applications can be produced. The consequence will be increased road safety and efficiency, and reduced environmental impact. This large project is coordinated by ERTICO and FEHRL is active in sub-project Deployment Enablers.

HEAVYROUTE - Intelligent Route Guidance for Heavy Vehicles
The project will develop an advanced route guidance system for HGVs as a tool for deriving the safest and the most cost effective routes for road freight transports through Europe. The guidance system will take into account road user, vehicle operating and environmental costs as well as maintenance costs for the road owner/manager due to deterioration of roads and bridges. The system will also provide real-time driver support and monitoring of the heavy vehicles.

INQUEST - Information Network on QUiet European road Surface Technology
The project will coordinate communication and dissemination of past and present research pertaining to guidance on the use of low-noise technologies for road surfaces to European countries with less access and experience in applying knowledge in that field. One of the main instruments will be the dissemination of the contents of the Guidance Manual developed by SILVIA by means of a series of workshops.

INTRO - Intelligent Roads
INTRO aims to address the problems of road safety and capacity combining sensing technologies and local databases with real-time networking technologies. FEHRL itself features as the leader of dissemination and clustering activities and as the umbrella for wider FEHRL involvement.

NR2C - New Road Construction Concepts
NR2C develops long-term perspectives and physical trial projects and demonstrations in the field of road construction, in which long-term visions and ideas are linked to short-term actions.

SILENCE - Quieter Surface Transport
The aim of the Integrated Project SILENCE is to develop holistic methodologies and technologies for improved control of surface transport noise in urban areas. Issues that will be covered, include noise control at the source, noise propagation, noise emission, and the human perception of noise. FEHRL is one of the eight core partners, from a range of rail, rail, community and academic stakeholders. Our contributions are provided by twelve institutes operating under an umbrella.

SIMBA - Strengthening road transport research cooperation between Europe and emerging international markets
SIMBA aims to increase road transport research cooperation between Europe and t he emerging markets of Brazil, China, India, and South Africa by establishing a collaboration network that will bring together the key stakeholders in the fields of Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), infrastructure and automotive development. The project will map national and regional research activities, policies and future requirements as well as organise regular events in order to establish each country’s priorities and define areas for future joint road transport cooperation.

SPENS - Sustainable Pavements for European New member States
The objective of this project is to develop appropriate tools and procedures for the rapid and cost-effective rehabilitation and maintenance of roads in the EU New Member States (NMS). The materials and technologies for road pavement construction and rehabilitation will: behave satisfactorily in a typical climate; have an acceptable environmental impact; be easy to incorporate within existing technologies; and be cost-effective and easy to maintain
