TRL has developed and launched a new website entitled Ratemystreet, focusing on rating a street's walkability. Based on a 5-star rating system, the online tool utilises Google maps and Google Street view to allow people to see their streets and rate them from around the globe. Ratemystreet is a complimentary tool to TRL's PERS (Pedestrian Environment Review System) software. For further information, please visit the TRL website.  A promotional video covering the essential elements of the Tyrosafe project and highlighting  the role of road surfaces in providing safer, quieter and greener roads, was launched today at the the Final Seminar which took place in Brussels, Belgium, in the framework of the Transport Research Arena 2010. The project will officially be ending on 30 June 2010. The video is available on fehrl.tv, FEHRL's YouTube Channel, and on the TYROSAFE project website homepage.

FEHRL will be participating and hosting various events at TRA 2010, taking place on 7 – 10 June 2010, in Brussels, Belgium. An exhibition FEHRL booth, with the participation of Polish members, IBDiM, can be found at n° 40-41. Other events and seminars planned for TRA 2010 consist of Forever Open Road, TYROSAFE (Final Seminar), CERTAIN, YEAR2010, SHRP2, and SIMBA II. You are further invited to join the FEHRL-TYROSAFE-SHRP2 cocktail taking place at the TRA venue in room 310, on Thursday June 10th, starting at 17.30. The EC has announced a Public Consultation on the review of Directive 2000/14/EC on Noise emissions from outdoor noise equipment. They are seeking the views and opinions of citizens and stakeholders on the various issues that may need to be addressed in a draft proposal for further amending the Directive. The replies to this consultation will provide the Commission services with a broader range of views on the identified policy needs and should enable to improving or confirming the envisaged approaches. The first issue of the EC Road Safety Newsletter has been published on their website. The new FEHRL led project, PILOT4SAFETY receives an admirable mention. PILOT4SAFETY is a Pilot project for common EU Curriculum for Road Safety experts: training and application on Secondary Roads. Partners in the project include ASTRAL, CDV, Generalitat de Catalunya, Prefecture of Thessaloniki, and Randers Municipality. The EC publication is available in three languages, English(.pdf), French, or German.

Authors are now invited to submit 200 word abstracts to    bridgesymposium@fehrl.org by 17:00 Central European Time, on Friday 30th April 2010. Posters can be on any topic related to Long Lived Bridges, including, New, more durable materials for bridges, Non-destructive testing, and Reliability analysis and modelling. After the keynote presentations in the afternoon of Tuesday June 8th, delegates at the joint symposium will be invited to visit the poster session. TyroSafe is sponsoring an online video competition to highlight the importance and raise awareness about the interactions between tyres, roads and safety. The "Tyrosafe Video Competition" is open for submissions and will close on the extended date of March 31st, 2010. For full competition details, please go to the dedicated Tyrosafe website. Vanaf maart start de Road Equipment Commission (REC-E226) opnieuw met een reeks infosessies over de praktische toepassing van de Europese normen voor veiligheidsconstructies voor wegen. De eerste sessie gaat door op 11 maart 2010 in het OCW auditorium in Sterrebeek. In de daarop volgende weken wordt het initiatief herhaald op verschillende plaatsen in België. Hier vindt u de praktische details, de planning en een inschrijvingsformulier. Au mois de mars, la Road Equipment Commission (REC-E226) débutera une nouvelle série de séances d'informations consacrées à l'application pratique des normes européennes relatives aux dispositifs de retenue routiers.
