FEHRLopedia

The FEHRLopedia has been designed as a portal to road infrastructure knowledge.  The system links relevant content from numerous reputable sites on the internet.  Users can search for information using different selection criteria; including project type, target end user, and technical scope.  Users can also add new content and rate existing content according to the usefulness of the links.

TYROSAFE D15 - Report on knowledge gaps and proposals for further research concerning optimisation for road surfaces and tyres for skid resistance, rolling resistance and noise emissions     0 2182 14.07.2010
The TYROSAFE Project is a Coordination and Support Action (CSA) in the Seventh EU Framework Programme and aims at coordinating and preparing for European harmonisation and optimisation of the assessment and management of essential tyre/road interaction parameters to increase safety and support the greening of European road transport. The project has focussed on three road surface “properties” as they are referred to in this and earlier TYROSAFE reports: skid resistance, rolling ...[more]
TYROSAFE D17 - Final plan for the use and dissemination of foreground including recommendations for follow-up activities     0 2189 14.07.2010
The project TYROSAFE (Tyre and Road surface Optimisation for Skid resistance And Further Effects) is a Coordination and Support Action funded by the European Seventh Framework Programme. The project has addressed the lack of awareness of the importance and contribution of skidding resistance to safety, the lack of harmonised systems for comparing skidding resistance (even within member states), and the concern over conflicts with other important characteristics of road surfaces. The project, whi ...[more]
TYROSAFE D14 - Interdependencies of parameters influencing skid resistance, rolling resistance and noise emission     0 2110 14.07.2010
TYROSAFE is focussed on three main road surface “properties”, as they are referred to in this report: skid resistance, rolling resistance or noise emis ...[more]
NCHRP Report 649/NCFRP Report 3: Separation of Vehicles—CMV-Only Lanes     4 2318 29.07.2010
NCHRP Report 649/NCFRP Report 3: Separation of Vehicles—CMV-Only Lanes presents an extensive compendium of information about CMV-only lanes and examines major issues and concepts that should be understood in developing new applications of CMV-only lane concepts as a potential method for both easing congestion and reducing the number of traffic accidents on highways. Appendices to this report, including an annotated literature review, performance evaluation criteria, benefits monetizat ...[more]
Low-noise road surfaces in urban areas     0 2106 16.08.2010
Over a period of up to seven years, the tyre/road noise and the pavement texture of low-noise road surfaces were measured on a series of up to 21 full-scale sites situated in urban areas with a speed limit of 50 km/h. The study involved a wide range of noise reducing asphalt mixtures, including semi-dense macro rough asphalt AC MR and porous asphalt PA. It has been shown that the acoustic performance decreases asymptotically as a function of traffic volume. For PA the decrease can be delayed pro ...[more]
Network Operation   Download fee  0 2111 07.09.2010
CEDR tasked its project group ‘Capacity and Service to Road Users’ to come up with a definition of the term ‘network operations’ (NetOp) and, based on this definition, to develop new ideas that could be incorporated into the way the National Road Authorities (NRAs) work. For the purposes of the following definition of the term ‘NetOp’, the provision of services to the customer/road user is considered to be the core task of NRAs. Network Operations is the del ...[more]
Procurement of ITS     0 2237 07.09.2010
Background ITS components account for approximately 10 per cent of the investment cost of a typical major road construction project. In terms of the lifecycle of the road, however, ITS accounts for a substantially higher proportion of investment costs. This is due to the fact that ITS components have a much shorter lifecycle and much higher maintenance and operation costs (up to 20 per cent p.a. of the total investment cost) than other road construction elements (1-2 per cent p.a. of the total ...[more]
Emergency Bridges     0 2196 07.09.2010
Background During many years bridges have been built under the management of SRSA (Swedish Rescue Services Agency) in among other countries Angola, Honduras and Afghanistan. These operations have been appreciated by the UN, Sida (Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency), and the countries where the bridges have been built. As a result there have been inquiries about continuous bridge building operations, not the least after the damages caused by the Tsunami on 26 December 2004. In ...[more]
