FEHRL will participate in the "Research Connection 2009" event that will be organised under the Czech EU Presidency by the European Commission/DG Research. From May 7-8, selected EU-funded projects will be exhibited in Prague. The event will present three major ongoing research initiatives: The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7), 2007-2013; The Structural Funds, 2007-2013 and The Competitiveness and Innovation Programme (CIP) 2007-2013
The FP7 Collaborative Re-road project (Re-road – End of life strategies of asphalt pavements) began on 01/01/09. Participants gathered early February to set the groundwork for this 3,2 M€ project. Fourteen parties are involved, consisting of ten FEHRL members. Addressing the technical and environmental aspects in recycling procedures of asphalt material, focus is on developing knowledge and innovative technologies for enhanced end-of-life strategies for asphalt road infrastructures and improving material sustainability.
On Feb 17, Claude van Rooten, President of FEHRL, together with representatives of ECTRI, EURNEX and FERSI, presented the Lyon "Declaration on the Implementation of the 2020 Vision for ERA" to European Commissioner Janez Potočnik.
FEHRL Secretariat is pleased to announce the appointment of Valerie Henry to the post of Communication Officer. Ms. Henry is based at FEHRL's office in Brussels. A graduate of Business Administration with an orientation in ICT from the Hogeschool-Universiteit Brussel, Ms Henry is passionate about supporting and promoting the network of FEHRL institutions.
She will be working closely with Nicolette Groot, who will be leaving for new horizons on June 1st 2009, in the continued development and execution of strategic communications initiatives in support of FEHRL's work.
COST invites Preliminary proposals for Actions contributing to the scientific, technological, economic, cultural or societaldevelopment of Europe. Proposals playing a precursor role for other European programmes and/or initiated by early-stage researchers are especially welcome. Deadline for Preliminary Proposals is 27 March 2009.

The 3rd Transport Research Arena (TRA 2010) conference will be held in Brussels (Belgium) from 7 to 10 June 2010. The TRA will deal with climate change and road safety, embraced in the slogan "Greener, safer and smarter transport for Europe”. For TRA 2010 the main theme will be Sustaining Road Transport Mobility through innovation in Europe. The internet site http://www.traconference.eu/ is now active.
